The pearls of the Mojave Desert
A ship presumed to be Spanish sunk into the Salton Sea, taking underwater a treasure worth millions of dollars. Nobody knows with certainty if the treasure has already been found.
Forrest Fenn’s treasure
Fenn was very passionate about artifacts so he dedicated part of his life to collect them. When he found out that he is dying, he hid the treasure and gave clues to the public about its whereabouts. The treasure hasn't been found yet.
The Bighorn River treasure
According to some experts, Captain Marsh was in charge of the boat which resupplied General Custer in his fight against the Indians. When he learnt about the General’s defeat and that he had to take aboard the injured men, he decided to bury the gold aboard to prevent the ship from sinking.
The Mosby treasure
Confederate Colonel Mosby took a Union General prisoner together with its fortune evaluated at $350,000. Because he had to take with him other prisoners as well, he had to bury the treasure, but never returned to recover it after he sent 7 men who got caught and hanged.
The treasure in Virginia
Thomas Beale found together with a few men gold and silver woth of $63 million and handed an innkeeper 3 ciphers which revealed the exact location of the treasure, what it contained and the names of the men who discovered the gold. The innkeeper was supposed to receive a key to the cypher in 10 years, but he never did.
The Key West treasure
In the 17th century, a Spanish ship carrying an enormous cargo of golod, silver and gems sunk being caught in a hurricane. Much of the treasure has already been found, but there are still pieces of it which can be found and are estimated at about $200 million.
Dillinger’s treasure
John Dillinger was also a famous outlaw and before he died he buried$200,000 in Wisconsin.
The pirates’ treasure
Two French pirates made a great fortune out of attacking merchant ships in the Gulf of Mexico. After they amassed enough welath they decided to bury some of it. Legend has it that the treasure is located somewhere in Louisiana.
The treasure of San Miguel
In the 18th century, Spain arranged for 11 ships filled with silver, gold, pearls and jewels to leave from Cuba before hurricane season began so as to avoid being attacked by pirates. A storm however sunk all the ships and only 7 of them have been recovered. The biggest ship, San Miguel, which is believed to hold most of the treasure, still has not been found.
Butch Cassidy’s treasure
Being an outlaw earned Cassidy a lot of money. He even buried $20,000 somewhere in Irish Canyon in Colorado.
